Our objective is to expand the international insertion of Brazilian cinema, stimulating the co-production and distribution of films in foreign territories, expanding business possibilities for the Brazilian film industry. Brazilian cinema at the Cannes Film Festival 2026 Cinema do Brasil returns to the Marché du Film and the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2026 with a strong, strategic, and diverse presence at the world's leading audiovisual industry event. From May 12th to 20th , Brazilian production companies, films, projects, and professionals will participate in important market activities and the official program, including market screenings, showcases, co-production meetings, innovation initiatives, and international networking events. The Brazilian delegation brings together representatives from different regions of the country and reflects the creative, industrial, and cultural strength of contemporary Brazilian audiovisual production, expanding business opportunities, international circulation, and new global partnerships. Criado e gerido pelo SIAESP - Sindicato da Indústria Audiovisual do Estado de São Paulo em 2006, em parceria com a Apex Brasil, o Cinema do Brasil é o Programa de Promoção e Internacionalização do Cinema Nacional. Who We Are Created and managed by SIAESP - the Audiovisual Industry Union of the State of São Paulo - in 2006, in partnership with Apex Brasil, Cinema do Brasil is the Program for the Promotion and Internationalization of Brazilian Cinema. Currently, our members are film production companies, distributors, sales agents, and festivals from different parts of Brazil. Our goal is to expand the international reach of Brazilian cinema, stimulating the co-production and distribution of films in foreign territories, and expanding business opportunities for the Brazilian film industry. Cinema do Brasil's lines of action are realized through participation in and promotion of business meetings in Brazil and abroad, and by establishing strategic partnerships. History of Cinema do Brasil In 2006, when it began its activities, the presence of Brazilian films at international festivals and the participation of professionals in international markets was small. Over the years, Cinema do Brasil's work has been to encourage the participation of Brazilian producers and distributors in these markets, stimulate networking, and promote Brazilian films at international festivals. In this way, our talents began to circulate, their work was followed by foreign professionals, and our cinema began to be recognized and prestigious. The number of official co-productions was very small, but it gradually increased to around 30 official co-productions per year. The presence of Brazilian films at international festivals also increased strongly, with films selected for the biggest festivals – Berlin, Cannes, Locarno, Venice and San Sebastian in the same year! – in addition to several other festivals. Consequently, awards and business generation also increased. The Union works to defend the sector in different forums, maintaining dialogue with the executive and legislative branches of government. BRAZIL IN THE GLOBAL INDUSTRY Brazil is a vast country with over 11,000 film and audiovisual production companies registered in Agência Nacional do Cinema (Ancine). These companies are eligible to secure financial support for international co-productions through national and regional funds. Historically, Brazil has been co-producing feature films with European countries since the 1960s, but it wasn't until the 2000s that there was a greater push for these partnerships, driven by new film policies, reaching new and potential co-producers across all continents. The Cinema do Brasil program, established in 2006, has been one of the major initiatives promoting Brazilian cinema globally, connecting Brazilian and international producers at the world's largest film festivals and markets.
